Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
